About
Kat Hastie
Kat Hastie grew up on a former plantation with acres of farm, open fields and abandoned slave dwellings. In 1970, she received her B.A. from the College of Charleston, and later studied at the Pratt Institute in Italy in 1985. She has additional training from the Day Studio of Decorative Painting, New York City; the Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence; and the Ruskin School at Oxford University.
“The things we don’t normally notice, or do and ignore – that is one subject of this group of paintings. The other is using images as a mechanism for arriving at something else. I am interested in the qualities of feeling in our peripheral experience and the nature of boundaries in our physical and psychological space.”
